For the longest time in my life, I felt nothing more important than being a good girl, prayer warrior, and academically driven. These were the three things I was known for. I struggled during most of my teenage years to find fulfillment. Fulfillment in the sense that I was not good enough; I had no skills or talents. It was not until this year that I began to discover more about myself and pursue my interests. One of my favorite things to do in this world is to write. I love to write; you might already know this, but I had to repeat it. I enjoy writing. In early June of this year, the idea of starting a podcast came to my mind during one of my morning devotional times. Alongside writing, I love to talk. My sisters often get upset at me because a single word can lead me to reply with four or five sentences of advice.
Many young females pursue their interests during their teenage years for various reasons. For some, they pursue their interests for fulfillment, for others to earn a living, and for the rest, it is just for pleasure. One common theme I often heard growing up regarding a young female and self-development is that a lady must be developed for marriage. But self-development is beyond marriage. Many great talents and skills within each individual are yet to be discovered. Age is often a limiting factor for young females to live to their full potential. The other day, I saw a picture of a 16-year-old female on social media stating, "I just became the youngest black owner of a beauty supply store at 16 years old! A simple retweet or like can help support". Self-development during the teenage years is critical. There are so many skills and ventures you can pursue today. Some include photography, brand influencing, writing, creating an app, starting a podcast, and starting a YouTube channel. Many people often believe that to pursue a skill, you must have little or some knowledge about the skill, but this is false. Photography is one of the easiest yet complex skills to pursue. Photography has many levels and dynamics, but you can become an expert in it if you set your mind to it. YouTube videos are beneficial; taking several photos and posting them, getting feedback, and even creating your website for your photography will make you an expert in the field if you are trying to start your photography website or take your photography skills to the next level. Brand Influencing is on the rise. You do not need a massive following or number of views to be a brand influencer. You only need a consistent and engaging audience on your social media platform. Reach out to brands and become a brand influencer. Although brand influencing is on different levels. There are categories of brand influencers, but you can become one today with the right tools and resources.
Writing: Writing is a skill but a skill that evolves. Being a writer is more than writing stories, blogs, essays, etc. Writing requires passion. Passion for something you care about is the easiest way to become a great writer. If you care so much about pets, you can start writing on different platforms or even create your own blog. You can create your blog through Wix and even on your website. Wix is a fantastic platform for blogs. You do not have to pursue your website immediately. You can start now and grow over time. Create an app: Most of the famous apps in the world today, Snapchat, Facebook, Whatsapp, and Twitter, were created by teens or young adults. Every young individual has an intelligent mind. Think beyond your everyday life. Many new ideas are coming up, ideas by many young people, and they are creating accessible sources of income for themselves. You need one brilliant idea, and you are set to go.
Start a Podcast: If you are a talker like me, you should consider starting your podcast; my podcast is faith-based. I talk about God, His kingdom, faith, family, and lifestyle topics. I approach each topic from a godly approach. I tackle three main things simultaneously: preaching God's Word, doing what I love, and earning money. You can do this also. You do not necessarily have to create a faith-based podcast; you can create a podcast on anything and everything; you have to make sure that it is something you love and have passion for.
Start a YouTube Channel: YouTube is one of the biggest platforms in the world today. Some pros and cons come with having a YouTube channel. You can create different content on different things while earning money. Many YouTube videos help guide and advise new YouTubers on how to start and be successful. You are young enough to begin developing yourself. Young females need to build themselves for themselves. Society puts more than enough pressure on females to compete with each other. All that matters is you. Develop you for you. Do not be a liability; be your own woman. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom." There is more inside of you than you have discovered. Explore different skills and become multi-skilled today. I want to encourage and challenge you to become your best because the world is waiting for you.
